About Us
A FOCUS ON PREVENTION
Family Promise  is the nation’s leading organization working to prevent and end family homelessness.

Ending homelessness means investing in homelessness prevention – that is, stopping people from becoming homeless to begin with. This involves a change in the way we think about homelessness. Rather than managing the problem through emergency services, such as soup kitchens and shelters, it makes more sense to intervene before the loss of housing occurs.
PREVENTION MATTERS
Episodes of homelessness have a direct, measurable impact on our children. Children who experience homelessness are:
More than 40% of Americans are a $400 expense away from financial distress.
The threat of crisis looms too closely for many families. Preventing families from spiraling into homelessness is an essential aspect of the Family Promise mission.

Rana is a graduate of the University of Montevallo’s School of Social Work. She has been with us since we opened in 1998. She is the first and last point of contact for those seeking help to avoid homelessness.
